The holiday cheer and New Year's celebrations have come to an end, and employees across the country are heading back to the office. It isn't all merry and bright, according to Manpower Inc. Their recent study reveals that 84% of workers want a new job in 2011.
Now, don't swear off on 2011 just yet. Engaging and retaining top talent is possible, but you have to work at it! Here are four resolutions to strive for to keep your employees from jumping ship:
1. Train the managers. 46% say lack of transparent communication from their company's leadership is the primary reason for pursuing new employment at the end of the recession. Training this group is essential as they set the tone for the rest of the staff.
2. Say thank you. 65% of people don't feel appreciated at work. Writing a quick thank you email or making a point to say thank you in person can combat negative attitudes, strengthen morale, and ultimately lessen the amount of resignations.
3. Provide training on presentation skills. 95% of people have anxiety before giving a presentation. With the economy on the brink, acing presentations and closing deals has never been more important. Providing training on these skills can help employees feel less stressed and more accomplished.
4. Promote work-life balance. 70% of Americans say their jobs are affecting their health. Encourage working out, eating healthy, and spending some time away from work. Build in some fun in the office by taking a Boggle break or planning lunch and learns to ease the tension.
Keep your resolutions and goals at the forefront to make 2011 your best year yet.
